Phils Split Up, With Mixed Results
March 3rd, 2009 by MattThe Phils played the Blue Jays twice today – an A game featuring Carlos Carrasco and J.A. Happ and a B game back home where Joe Blanton and Jamie Moyer took the hill.
J.A. Happ pitched well after giving up a 2 run homer in the first to Adam Lind. In the B game, Joe Blanton and Jamie Moyer gave encouraging signs that the middle of the rotation will be solid in ’09 by combining for 7 shutout innings.
Carlos Carrasco had a rougher day, giving up 5 runs, 3 of them earned, in the 5th inning of the A game. Carrasco admitted after the game that he lost his focus after Eric Bruntlett dropped a flyball that got the ball rolling on the big inning.
In other good news, Raul Ibanez had a nice day at the plate in the A game with 2 doubles. John Mayberry Jr. knocked 2 runs in as well to continue his hot spring. If he continues his impressive work at the plate, will he be sent down regardless? I would think so. More seasoning in the minors seems in the offing for Mayberry regardless of how he performs in spring training.

Todd Zolecki reports on Brad Lidge’s status. Zolecki also spoke with Brett Myers, who wants to be a Phillie beyond his current contract, which expires at the end of this season. I’m not sure how I feel about that yet.

I love when folks parody those lame inspirational posters. The always entertaining We Should Be GMs does a good one regarding Adam Eaton being signed by the Orioles.

The Fightins have a new online store where you can buy some very Fightinsesque t-shirts. I like the red one that says Jimmy & Chase & Ryan & Cole. Simple. I like simple.

Speaking of spending money, I am looking forward to hitting my local Barnes & Noble after work tomorrow to see if they are carrying a copy of The 2009 Phillies Annual.

Thanks to a suggestion by Doc over at Balls, Sticks & Stuff, I have added a link to the 2009 sortable schedule at the top of the sidebar, and also gave it a name – The 2009 Schedule Thing. I couldn’t think of a better name for it.

Glad you consider us always entertaining.
Always!
